The fear factor

first_imgA big thanks to covid-19, the dynamics of the world are fast changing at the rate of noughts with every passing minute. While the apocalypse caused by this invisible and deadly virus is well known to the mankind. Not only it has infected  millions of people all over the world, snatched lives of thousands whosoever has come under its trap, at the same time, a significant proportion have found a way to come on top against this virus which is acting as a catalyst in boosting the confidence of infected people , but also is posing some stiff challenges and questions to the men in power as to how will cope up with the menace of  umemployment.Knowingly or unknowingly, deep inside there are grave concerns amongst all sections of the society regarding their employment and one can sense there is tension written all over the face which maybe visible sooner rather than later.Although governments of each country are  putting surfeit efforts to minimise the damage but still the equation looks beyond their reach when it comes to the havoc caused to the economies of all nations. Even though, there may be handful of pundits and veterans  expressing optimism and betting big on Indian economy at this point of time , there seems to be a broad consensus amongst all the renowned agencies that situation is grim when it comes to growth rate. But one question that keeps striking my mind and I am finding it a hard pill to swallow is why some people are over worried about their future at this point of time. Perhaps answer to this question lies in the holy books. Despite the Prime Minister of India, urging people and corporates  not to show their respective empoyees exit doors, the fact of matter is that companies run on balance sheets not on emotional aspect. The seldom way they can contribute is, if the governments lend them a helping hand in this hour of crisis, otherwise we are asking way too much for my liking from the firms . Or if we look at from my perspective, I personally believe that concerned humans need to realise and accept it as a reality that they are not alone in this game, neither there is anything called permanent in this world. Whatever  be the situation of the country is, once this pandemic gets over in India, everyone will assess the situation as to where exactly we stand. There is bound to be firing of employees but one must take into consideration and can take a lot of heart from the fact that this time around they would having experience up their sleeves once they would again apply for any other suitable job.I also believe that this is going to be a brand new start for every individual in their lives once we are able to take hold of this covid -19 situation. I also reckon, that the lurking fear of starting from the scratch amongst people if they are fired  is also one of the prominent reason for their increasing anxiety levels. For the time being, we need to first survive this storm, else we are planning for the situations which we may not be able to see.To give a ray of hope , nobody would have thought at the start  that India would be able to stem this pandemic, yet the bottom line is we have done a commendable job so far . If we can contain this, definitely we can conquer the other issues as well.Compiled by:Ritesh Naranglast_img read more

In unexpected move, Jersey City Council okays measure to install 72…

first_img 7 COMMENTS May 22, 2020 1:10 pm at 1:10 pm Mike What are the chances that there will be one of these towers in front of Mayor Fulop’s home in the Heights ? Please install one in the heights around Carlton Ave and Liberty. I live in a total dead zone. Calls are dropped all the time. Cellular connection is terrible. I just spent $150 to add a new UNIFI AC PRO Wifi extender because my $300 a month Verizon plan gets no cellular reception here. As soon as I walk 3 blocks in any other direction the reception is great. However, that review, that fee, needs to be directly related to the efforts of municipal employees for that task, in this particular case, it’s $750 per pole.”On the topic of co-location, Strasser noted that ZenFi Networks said it would be willing to accommodate other 5G cellular vendors on one of their 72 new utility poles, thereby avoiding cluttering the rights of way for residents. Before the vote, Strasser again re-emphasized what he told the council at their May 6 virtual meeting that only the FCC can determine whether 5G is safe, which they already have.“It is outside the purview of the municipalities, counties and states to determine on a case-by-case basis whether they believe that the technology is safe,” Strasser said.He noted that he understood the council’s frustration that only the FCC can determine the safety of 5G cellular technology, which is why there was a late add-on to the agenda last night. The council introduced a resolution encouraging U.S. Reps. Albio Sires (D-8) and Donald Payne, Jr. (D-10), as well as U.S. Sens. Bob Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-NJ), to introduce changes to the Federal Telecommunications Act to give more authority to municipal governments regarding the placement of 5G cell towers.Nevertheless, Strasser was quick to note not to expect any action soon on an act that passed in 1996.“It’s unlikely that in the next six months to a year there will be any action taken on this.”Additionally, Ward A Councilwoman Denise Ridley, one of the first council members to express concern about whether 5G is safe, decided to vote against introducing the ordinance back in April. However, with the initiation of a lawsuit by ZenFi Networks, she decided to vote yes because she doesn’t want the city to be incurring substantial legal bills defending its position.“I don’t know if we should spend this money right now to fight this in court if we know we are going to lose – or if the attorneys are saying this is a battle that we’re going to lose – but I think we should still continue to do the research and reach out to our federal representatives,” said Ridley.Boggiano still emphatically voted no.“As I said, there are many scientists that disagree totally with what the FCC says and I’ll tell you something: anybody who gets sick, I hope they not only sue the city, they sue the judge or any court that ever says that we have to go along with this. I think it’s a disgrace, and I say no.”Ward D Councilman Yousef Saleh added that the city has already approved the installation of 5G with two other vendors and therefore wouldn’t be in a good position to win the lawsuit.“I really think that this council also approved twice 5G in our city, so it’s already here. The court isn’t stupid, they’re going to look at this and say ‘you guys approved it before and now you’re having this open dialogue in the city council.’”With the council voting to pass the ordinance by a margin of 6-3, with Ward E Councilman James Solomon, Lavarro, and Boggiano voting no, the lawsuit brought by ZenFi Networks is now moot, according to Strasser.“These folks don’t want to inform the public: the council has a responsibility making sure that people are aware … they just gotta do better,” former Ward B Councilman Chris Gadsden, who had previously spoken out against the measure, said over the phone.“Everybody who voted yes, who took corporation counsel’s word for it, they have a responsibility to the community for the location of towers. They didn’t do enough.” May 23, 2020 9:01 am at 9:01 am Hi Mike. If you live under 5G radiation for 24/7/365 you will definitely get harmful effects of it. 5G is totally different radiation than radiation from WiFi. Get educated and then you will express your thoughts and opinions. Two weeks after the Jersey City Council voted to table an ordinance to install 72 new utility poles for a 5G cellular network, they voted 6-3 last night to remove the ordinance from the tabled agenda items before approving it by the same margin. THIS IS GOIBG LESSON OUR LIFE SPAN I’m dumbfounded that some of our city leaders, of all people, are so gullible to Russian propaganda on Facebook. Mr. Boggiano is recklessly intervening in our community’s affairs without doing his due diligence on the matter. Did he seriously make the asinine statement that he read on Facebook that 5G technology emits “radiation”? That’s like saying a light bulb emits light, or a toaster creates heat. Of course it does, that’s the point.Radio, light, and the heat in your toaster are all streams of photons (a.k.a. “radiation”). The only material difference between them is how fast the photons wiggle (a.k.a. “frequency”). Light bulbs and eyes deal with photons wiggling at the speed we call “light”. Radio/wifi/5G antennas deal with photons wiggling at the speed we call “radio”. Bad photons (e.g. from nuclear fallout) are bad because they wiggle fast. Good photons (visible light and radio) wiggle slow. 5G photons actually wiggle slower than light photons! 5G photons are safer than light photons. So if 5G is dangerous, then you should outlaw summer to protect us from all the sunlight!Meanwhile, Verizon and Optimum are price gouging our community for internet access. Internet access has become as essential as electricity. We need it to access every kind of public and private service these days. Kids can’t do their homework without it. It’s been a lifeline during the COVID-19 crisis. 5G is the only way we’re going to get some competition for Verizon and Optimum, and that’s what’s best for our community.last_img read more

Senate President Kelly Calls On House Majority To Negotiate A Budget

first_imgThe House added the dividend amendment Wednesday in passing its rewrite of the budget. Lawmakers have yet to finalize a separate state operating budget. Sen. Kelly, R-Fairbanks: “The State of Alaska is two weeks away from a government shutdown that will have serious consequences for Alaskans, and will prove costly for our public and private sectors. The Senate calls on the House Majority, again, to put aside the politics and resume negotiations on an operating budget. This must be our highest priority. FacebookTwitterEmailPrintFriendly分享The special session is scheduled to end Friday, with the new fiscal year starting on July 1. Senate President Pete Kelly, R-Fairbanks is calling on the House Majority to resume negotiations on an operating budget following continued threats of a government shutdown. “The House Majority’s actions today add more than $800 million to a state budget that they have refused to cut. This clearly demonstrates how desperate they are to drive up state spending any way they can, to justify an income tax that is not needed under the Senate’s proposal or under the governor’s proposed compromise. “The Senate has actively sought a compromise on an operating budget to provide certainty to the public and private sectors. The House Majority has refused to negotiate this week, canceling two conference committee meetings and a floor session.center_img “The House Majority’s actions today on the capital budget are a distraction from the negotiations we should be having – that the Senate wants to be having – on an operating budget. They are running out the clock and threatening Alaska jobs and the economy. The Alaska Senate must decide whether to accept a capital budget that would pay Alaskans a full dividend from the state’s oil-wealth fund. “The Senate will continue to prioritize an operating budget and hopes the House Majority will join us in fulfilling our responsibility to Alaskans.”last_img read more

Vodacom gets ‘green’ innovation centre

first_img28 June 2011Work is under way on building one of Africa’s greenest buildings as Vodacom and its parent company Vodafone plan an alternative energy innovation centre to help reduce carbon emissions across the world.Once completed, the Midrand, Johannesburg-based innovation centre will house a team of experts tasked with developing energy efficient technology to counter environmental challenges. The Vodafone Innovation Centre, which will serve all of Vodafone’s global markets, is expected to be completed in the latter part of the 2011. The innovations developed in South Africa will be rolled out across markets to benefit the entire Vodafone group.“The innovation centre will be one of the most environmentally friendly buildings in the entire Vodafone group, powered with renewable energy using cooling and heating technologies,” Vodacom CEO Pieter Uys said at the launch of the building in Midrand last week. “We are working with the Green Building Council of South Africa to ensure the building is accredited according to the Green Star rating system.”Climate benefits, cost savingsIn emerging markets, diesel generators are often used to provide energy to base stations that are off the electricity grid, so more efficient energy solutions can play a key role in reducing carbon emissions from such power sources.According to Vodacom, considerable climate benefits and cost savings can be achieved by creating technology that runs on renewable energy.“Building sustainable, environmentally focused systems and infrastructure is critical in the current economic and environmental climate,” said Uys. “Not only will the innovation centre help to deliver energy savings across the Vodafone group, but it will also save us money.“Business can no longer look at sustainability as a nice-to-have element of operations – it is a critical aspect of our business strategy that adds enormous value to the bottom-line.”Driving efficiencyThe Smart 2020 report stated: “Enabling the low carbon economy in the information age”, published by independent non-profit The Climate Group and the Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), suggests that global ICT companies could apply their technology to help other industries and consumers mitigate 7.8 gigatons of CO2 emissions by 2020 or 15% of the current global emissions.“The innovation centre is a critical component in our global strategy to create mobile technology that impacts the environment in a positive way,” said Uys. “If we are able to aggressively drive efficiency and cost reductions in this area, we can pass these reductions on to our customers, a core component of this strategy.”SAinfo reporterWould you like to use this article in your publication or on your website? Law 2.0 News: Mumboe Uses Semantics To Pull Key Data From Contracts

first_imgWhy Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting Related Posts sarah perez Tags:#enterprise#Product Reviews#web Mumboe isn’t just another enterprise collaboration suite. Instead, they focus on doing one thing and doing it well: making business agreements searchable. That’s a very unique need they fill, which is why is why they already have 3000 customers using their free Express solution after only having launched earlier this spring. To compete with the handful of other vendors in this narrow space, Mumboe has now added a new feature called On-Demand Contract Intelligence, which takes advantage of the service’s semantic processing engine to deliver something the others don’t: automatic extraction of data. In these uncertain times, there has been a lot of speculation about what sort of web apps will survive the U.S. financial crisis. Clones and other sites offering little to no value may disappear, but ones that offer something unique may have a shot. Those that deliver something of value to a business may be even more likely to weather the storm. Although Mumboe hasn’t been the only business contract management solution around – others like EchoSign, DocuSign, and Entrust, for example are also available – their competitors tend to offer document management through the use of digital signatures. What Mumboe does is different – business agreement tracking and management. Through their dashboard you can keep tabs on upcoming and past-due tasks as well as deadlines. You can also create, view, or search for agreements in your online database. Now Mumboe is introducing another feature that lets them stand from the crowd out even more than before: On-Demand Contract Intelligence. Auto-Extracting DataTo use this new feature, you begin by uploading documents into Mumboe as usual, a process that involves nothing more than browsing for the file on your PC and uploading it to Mumboe. The OCR software in the system will scan the document’s text and make the text searchable. Once complete, you can then select the new “Auto Extract” button which lets you automatically extract the key details from the document such as the parties involved and the agreement term. Those details are displayed for your reference along with the exact place in the document where they were found. You’ll also be able to see an excerpt of the text contains those key words and phrases. You can choose to save the data as is or edit it as you see fit. If the system extracts terms you don’t need to track, you can simply discard those items and keep the rest. When you’re finished, just click “Done.” Pulling out the details: A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Why This MattersFor consumers and every one else outside the target audience, Mumboe and other similar types of applications seem dry and boring. But for those in need of better tools, mainly those working in the legal profession, they will see this auto-extract capability as one sexy new feature. Why? Because according to the International Association for Contract and Commercial Management (IACCM), poorly managed contracts result in over $153 billion in missed savings and revenue per year. Give our current economic conditions, those numbers cannot be ignored. The only hurdle Mumboe has to overcome is the lawyers’ (a typically conservative bunch) fear of moving to an online application. Their, in our opinion, misguided fear and mistrust of any sort of cloud app keeps them doing business the old-fashioned way – reading through pages and pages of documents themselves instead of enlisting the aid of some “new fangled” system to help them out. But for those who do take the leap, their efficiency will increase dramatically. If there’s any occupation that understands the concept of “time is money,” law would be it, and that’s why Mumboe has a shot. How To Join the BetaThe Mumboe auto-extract features are in private beta at the moment, but you can sign up to join here: https://app.mumboe.com/registration/beta_promotion_index. Mumboe will give out invites to RWW readers exclusively.More About Mumboe:last_img read more

How to Jailbreak Your iPhone, iPad or iPod Running iOS 5.1.1

first_imgLooking to do a little more with your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch? The latest untethered jailbreak tool for iOS arrived last week, racking up a million downloads in just a few days. Absinthe 2.0 works on most iOS 5-compatible devices, except for a later model of the iPad 2 that contains the 32-nanometer chipset. The process is incredibly straightforward and requires no technical sophistication – only a few clicks and a little bit of patience. We thought it’d be worth running through here.1. Getting Ready: Download Absinthe and Backup Your DeviceThe first thing you’ll need to do is download Absinthe 2.0 to your computer. There are versions available for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. Once it’s downloaded, unpack, install and open Absinthe.  Before you hit the “jailbreak” button, plug your iOS device into the computer via USB, and open iTunes so you can back it up.  When the device appears within iTunes, right-click it and choose “Back Up.”  In iTunes, you have the option to back up to your local hard drive or iCloud. For the sake of speed, backing things up locally is probably the better option. A word to the wise: If you’ve download apps directly to your device (which is likely), you’ll want to transfer those purchases to iTunes first. This way, when you restore the device, you won’t lose any apps. You can also restore missing apps on the device by going to the “Purchased” tab under “Updates” in the iTunes store, but redownloading everything can be a little tedious. Warning: Backing up your device in iTunes does not include your photos and videos. You’ll want to import everything into iPhoto or use Photo Stream to sync them. If you don’t do this, you’ll lose them all.  2. Wipe Your Device (Don’t Worry)The jailbreak process will go more quickly if you don’t have too much stuff on your device. To wipe it clean, go into Settings on the device itself. Then navigate to General –> Rest –> Erase All Content and Settings. Agree to all the warnings and try not to worry. You just backed everything up, after all. 3. Jailbreak and Restore from BackupOnce your device is backed up and cleared off, you’ll want to launch Absinthe, where you should see a “Jailbreak” button. Click that. As the window says, it may take a while. Be sure not to disconnect the device.   Related Posts john paul titlow Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… Tags:#Apple#web center_img Once Absinthe says the jailbreak process is complete, open iTunes back up. Find the device on the left hand side, right click it and choose “Restore From Backup.”Once this process is complete, your device should reboot. When it comes back on, it should be more or less the same as it was before, but it will have an icon for Cydia. This is the app store that houses all the tweaks, themes and apps that make jailbreaking fun.You may run into issues with the way apps are arranged after you restore the device. If that’s the case, it’s just a matter of taking a few minutes to manually rearrange things. Again, if apps are missing, you can grab them again in the iTunes App Store under the “Updates” tab. 4. Getting Started with Cydia To newcomers, the Cydia app store is not quite as polished or intuitive as Apple’s, but it doesn’t take long to find one’s way around. You’ll want to start by browsing through “Featured” list and looking at the themes that are available. Cydia does a decent job of breaking things down into useful categories and even provides a list of tools to start out with. There are a lot of tweaks, themes and apps available in Cydia. It’s worth taking the time to scroll through each list, check out the descriptions and screen shots, and start installing things you think would be useful for you. When I first jailbroke my iPhone 4, I started small by adding a fifth icon to the dock, enabling app-renaming, making Sparrow my default email client and adding a new theme. Other popular enhancements include additions to Notification Center, Wi-Fi tethering, game emulators and a variety of lock screen modifications. Most tweaks and apps are free, but a handful of them cost a few bucks. The tethering and hotspot apps tend to run $10-$20, but price tags that large are otherwise pretty rare in Cydia.See Also:Jailbreaking iOS: Should You Bother?  A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Marketlast_img read more
