To receive the endorsement of the NJEA, which represents 200,000 hard-working men and women, is very special for me.”“I look forward to being a voice for our educators to ensure their needs and the needs of the students in our wonderful schools are met.”Chaparro was among the six candidates announced to run on the HCDO line at a March press conference, replacing Carmelo Garcia.Garcia, once heavily rumored to oppose Chaparro off the line, will instead challenge Hoboken 6th Ward Councilwoman Jen Giattino for her council seat on November 3.The HCDO also endorsed Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-32), a no brainer considering he is also the chair of the party, his running mate Angelica Jimenez (D-32), Nicholas Chiaravalloti (D-31) and Denise Ridley, who ended up soon being replaced by Angela McKnight (D-31).McKnight is one of the few HCDO-backed candidates who has seen any life out of her Republican counterpart, with Matthew Kopko most recently going after her for an alleged ELEC violation. The NJEA endorsed 54 Assembly candidates across the state, all Democrats, at a dinner at the East Brunswick Hilton on Thursday.
