His desire to serve is not motivated by money as he only receives $199.50 per month for his services.“It is my willpower and ability to continue serving the people and after doing it for a number of years I get better at it. Persons have been tried to destroy my willingness to serve but no one can take that away,” he added. The last Council election in 2010 was marred by allegations of mismanagement of council funds and other infightings among councilors.Mr Albert said his initial decision not to contest the elections for a fifth time was due to allegations made against him by other council members. He has since “gotten over” these allegations and is dealing with them “extremely well”.He has also given the assurance that the controversies which have plagued the Council in the past have been resolved.“We will not be seeing a repeat of the issues we had in the past because most of what was creating those issues has been dealt with to avoid these situations from repeating itself,” Mr Albert stated. Although his position has been viewed as “politically motivated” by some members of the public, he emphasized that his purpose has been to serve the people and to assist with representation from government’s stand point. “People may say I am political and there is no doubt I have demonstrated publicly my allegiance to the Labour Party and it is one’s democratic right. There are members on the council who do not support the government, but it is their democratic right as well,” he said. The important consideration for him however, is that they work together despite their political affiliations.“As long as we respect each other’s right and deal with the issues of importance without trying to vilify each other, I feel we can work well together,” he said.
