Josley Prince wins Caribbean Firefighter award

first_img Share Josley Prince (centre) received the Services Medal of Honour award on Independence Day.A Dominican fire officer has for the second time, won the Caribbean Firefighters of the Year award bestowed by the Caribbean Association of Fire Chief’s (CAFC).Josley Jean-Pierre Prince, who joined the Dominica Fire and Ambulance Services in 2010, is the second recipient of the award which was first granted to Dominican Tony Jno Baptiste in Montego Bay, Jamaica in 2009.Prince was recognized by the fire chiefs for distinction in exceptional service to the community that he serves during the CAFC’s award ceremony on Friday, December 6, 2013.In April this year, Prince prevented the deaths of several people after the vehicle he was travelling in with two other people plunged into a gorge while en route to a football tournament in Grenada. He managed to climb up from the gorge and signaled the presence of the gorge to oncoming motorists.The Caribbean firefighter of the year award was one of the highlights of the closing ceremony of the Caribbean Association of Fire Chief’s (CAFC) annual conference held in Dominic last week. Over 50, firefighters from the Caribbean, the United States and the United Kingdom, attended the conference. “I am just delighted that fireman Prince could receive such a prestigious award I think no better way for the curtains to drop on the 2013 chief conference held here in Dominica,” Chief Fire Officer, Josiah Dupuis told Dominica Vibes on Monday, December 9, 2013. “This award is a reminder of the wonderful work that we do here in the Dominica Fire and Ambulance Services,” Dupuis noted.Dupuis, who described the award as “very prestigious” said it is not often that firemen are recognized for their hard work “In 2009, fireman Jno Baptiste received the first of such award and I’m very happy to report that this year, 2013 fire officer Prince can receive the same award”.Dupuis is confident that the award will serve as further motivation for Dominican firefighters to “continue the work that we do”.“We are rewarded for outstanding work that we do and I think it will serve as further motivation for fire officers who continue to work day and night doing their respective duties, I am very certain that this award does encourage fire officers to continue with the work that we do”.
