Sharecenter_img Tweet 15 Views   no discussions The Dominica Co-operative Societies League today awarded 2 scholarships to deserving students as they prepare for entry into secondary school.In addition to the scholarships, the league also awarded 19 one-time bursaries to other students who may have needed financial assistance.Recipient of the 2015 Jeoffry Robinson scholarship, Kelsi Walsh, expressed her gratitude while speaking to the recipients of this years awards.“I am honored to be a recipient of the 2015 Joffrey Robinson Scholarship. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the Dominica Society Co-operative League for your continued support towards my education,” Walsh said.“This scholarship has lightened my financial burden, which allowed me to focus more on the most important aspect of school learning. This opportunity has opened a door on the prospect of a brighter future and will play a key role in shaping me into a successful person in the future.”Walsh went on to congratulate the new scholarship recipients and remind them that the journey has just begun.“You have a steep mountain to climb and many rivers to cross. Just remember to stay focused and trudge forward, but most importantly, have fun along your journeyPresident of the League, Josephine Dublin, also made remarks at the function. She stated that the aim of the awards was to assist the students in nurturing social skills and making a contribution to their schools and communities.She went on to reiterate the League’s commitment to its co-operative principles of education and training, and care for the community.“Both scholarships are for a five-year period and will cover costs related to the student’s attendance at secondary school, and that includes the school fees of up to eight hundred dollars a year. The provision of the books and stationery, a uniform allowance of two hundred and fifty dollars in the first and third years, a payment or payment for all the examinations is the payment of a commuter allowance. If the student lives outside of one-half mile from the secondary school that they will be attending.”This year, the league has also offered bursaries to 19 students. This bursary is a one-time payment of assistance of three hundred dollars.
