FACEBOOKBACOLOD Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts setter Marianne Sotomil has committed to play for the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons in the UAAP women’s volleyball next year.Tay Tung vice president for sports Jose Montalbo said they were just waiting for the offer sheet from UP to formalize Sotomil’s commitment when she graduates from high school this year.“Marianne is moving to University of the Philippines pagka-graduate niya ng high school,” Montalbo told Panay News. “Formality na lang iyong pagpirma namin sa offer sheet ng UP.”Sotomil, a native of Pavia, Iloilo, said she chose UP over another Manila-based team that tried to hire her as she sees a bright future for her there in terms of academics and playing volleyball.“Kasi ako iyong tipong mas inuuna ang academics sa sports, and we know that UP is one of the top schools in the country in terms of quality of education,” Sotomil said.“I see this also as an opportunity for me to improve my volleyball skills since UP has a good volleyball program,” she added. “I am looking forward to learn from the veteran players and the coaches.”Sotomil have drawn the attention of Lady Maroons after her stellar play for Thunderbolts in the Rebisco Girls’ Volleyball League last November at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna.Named Best Setter several times while playing for Thunderbolts, Sotomil will also become the third Western Visayas-based player in Lady Maroons’ camp aside from Bacolodnons Arielle Estranero and Jessma Ramos./PN[/av_textblock][/av_one_full]last_img
