NEW ORLEANS – When former G.W. Carver standout Shaun Dion Hamilton enrolled early at Alabama last January, he had in mind the scene he found himself immersed in on Tuesday. As the Sugar Bowl media day unfolded on the floor of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, Hamilton seemed undaunted by his surroundings.“This is why I came to Alabama, to be a part of experiences like this. I came here to win. I just want a ring at the end of the season,” Hamilton said. The 6-foot-1, 244-pound linebacker has seen action in all 13 games as a true freshman, recording three tackles along the way.“I just wanted to be able to play on special teams and find me a role where I could help the team. It’s been everything that I hoped for. It’s been a great experience. I just wanted to be able to come in here and contribute, to do my role to help us become a better team,” Hamilton said.Hamilton’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. He was recognized as special team player of the week for his work in the Auburn game.“That was a big accomplishment for me. I earned it because every time on kickoff return I blocked my man and made sure I blocked him to the ground. It was a great feeling after that,” Hamilton said.Hamilton has learned to quickly adjust to the collegiate game since dominating in high school.“At this level, everybody’s fast, everybody’s strong and everybody’s physical, so you’ve got to do that extra work just so you can have an edge. I feel like I’ve adjusted to it pretty good,” Hamilton said. His thoughts are precise as to mindset of the Crimson Tide this week.“I just want to come in here and win, and I’ll do whatever I can to make that happen. Last time they were down here, they didn’t win. This time we want it to be different,” Hamilton said.Hamilton hopes his success will be influential in paving the path for other Wolverines to come to Tuscaloosa. A pair of Carver juniors, defensive end Marlon Davidson and linebacker Lyndell Wilson, are listed among the nation’s top recruits for 2016.“You can bet that I’ll definitely be in their ear to come join me,” Hamilton said.
